York Chess Mourns the Loss of Richard Jessop

A memorial to celebrate the life of Richard Jessop
was held on Friday 24th June 2016, 1pm, at York Crematorium.

It was with great sadness that York Chess learned of Richard's passing.

Richard began playing in the York Chess League in October 2010.
He represented the Shepherds and Brigantes teams in the York Chess Leagues.
He also went onto represent York RI in the IM Brown Yorkshire League.
Richard started out in the league ungraded and by November 2014 had earned an
excellent YCA grade of 171.

Our deepest condolences to Mrs Jessop and her family upon the passing of Richard.

Stuart Acton wrote :
“He was an excellent team player, always prepared to help and coach lesser players and was always
willing to help out at the last minute if players dropped out. He will be sadly missed”

Peter Cloudsdale wrote :
“Dear All,
I have just attended the funeral of Richard Jessop a former York Chess player.
He was born in Essex and was a Barclays Bank Manager.
Richard was Barclays Chess Champion and liked many sports including supporting West Ham United.
Aged 78 he was a strong chess player and helped York C and Brigantes teams.
Very well liked and a good family man.
He will be sorely missed.
Our thoughts are with June, family and friends.
Peter Cloudsdale, York”
